Milngavie Young Singers
Rehearsal for concert in Haddington
Music makes friends!
Milngavie
Young Singers is an independent musical organisation, affiliated to Making
Music (The National Federation of Music Societies). It is in the voluntary
sector, and non-commercial. MYS has an approved Child Protection Policy, and is registered with the Central Registered Body in Scotland.
Membership is not limited to Milngavie: enthusiastic
members have travelled, for example from Blanefield and Glasgow's West
End. We have received financial support from East Dunbartonshire Arts
Council and from the Scottish Arts Council. The present conductor of
Milngavie Young singers is Dr John Edwards (a staff member of Glasgow University).
As a choir we have won numerous awards in competitive Festivals,
including (four times) the Herald Trophy for choirs under-sixteen, at
the Glasgow Festival. Numerous individual successes include the only boy
treble (John McClue) ever to win the Agnes Duncan Trophy for young soloists.
From time to time members of MYS have appeared in a series of productions
by Scottish Opera and in the Nutcracker with Scottish Ballet. MYS has
provided children's voices for performances with Bearsden Borough Choir,
Glasgow Orchestral society, Hamilton Choral Society, Milngavie Choir and
Strathclyde University Choral Society. A special feature of Milngavie
Young Singers' activities has been the commissioning of new works for children's voices and instrumental
ensembles.
Milngavie
Young Singers inherit a 70-year tradition of a young people's choir
in Milngavie.
